Selahattin Demirtaş condemns attack on Turkish aerospace industries, calls for political solutions

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In the wake of the recent attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) in Ankara, Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), on Wednesday issued a statement condemning the violence and urging political dialogue to resolve ongoing issues.

"We condemn the attack. May God forgive those who lost their lives. We extend our deepest condolences to their families, and we wish the injured a swift recovery," Demirtaş expressed in his message.

Demirtaş stressed the need to move away from violence and bloodshed, advocating for peaceful solutions through political dialogue. He emphasized that any attempt to derail democratic efforts and peaceful approaches must be firmly rejected.

"The mentality that seeks to prevent the resolution of our problems through dialogue and politics by shedding blood must understand that if [Abdullah] Öcalan takes the initiative for peace, we will support him with all our strength," Demirtaş declared, referring to the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

He further highlighted the HDP's commitment to supporting peaceful resolutions and protecting those advocating for peace. "We will never allow those who want peace to be suppressed," he stated, underscoring his party's firm rejection of any efforts to undermine democratic politics or peaceful solutions.

The attack took place in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, where two armed individuals targeted the TUSAŞ facility. According to Turkish media reports, one of the assailants detonated explosives during a clash with security forces, leading to a deadly exchange. Four people were killed and 14 others were injured in the attack. Both gunmen were killed in the confrontation.

The incident has raised concerns over the resurgence of violence in Turkey, and officials have vowed to take swift action against any terrorist threats.
