Kurdistan Region to expand solar power generation with 3,000 MW target by 2034
“The government has made great efforts to work with renewable energy, planning to increase solar electricity generation to 3,000 megawatts over the next 10 years,” Amin said.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is intensifying its commitment to renewable energy by aiming to generate 3,000 megawatts of solar electricity over the next decade, a senior official announced on Friday.
Rawa Mohammed Amin, Director of the Department of Renewable Energy in the Ministry of Electricity, told Kurdistan24 that the government had already signed contracts to establish three solar power plants with a combined capacity of 350 megawatts.
“The government has made great efforts to work with renewable energy, planning to increase solar electricity generation to 3,000 megawatts over the next 10 years,” Amin said.
This initiative aligns with the KRG's broader efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on traditional fossil fuels. The three signed contracts mark a significant step towards realizing this vision.
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani previously highlighted the growing interest of international companies in supporting renewable energy projects in the region. Their involvement is expected to accelerate the development of solar infrastructure and enhance energy sustainability.
The move underscores the KRG's dedication to harnessing renewable energy to meet future energy demands while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
