ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Saturday, the judicial panel responded to 38 out of 41 appeals filed against the Kurdistan Parliament election results, with the remaining responses expected this week, according to Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai.

Speaking to Kurdistan 24, al-Ghalai confirmed that the remaining appeals will be addressed within the week.

The appeals window opened on Oct. 31, 2024, resulting in 41 challenges filed by political parties across the region: 25 from Sulaimani, 12 from Erbil, three from Duhok, and one from Halabja.

According to electoral law, the judicial panel must resolve all appeals within 10 days of receiving them from IHEC.

Once all appeals are settled, the Board of Commissioners will proceed with certifying the final results of the sixth Kurdistan Parliament election.

The Kurdistan Region held its parliamentary elections in 2024, marking the sixth legislative election since the establishment of the Kurdistan Parliament. The appeals process is a crucial step in ensuring the transparency and legitimacy of the electoral process.

The distribution of appeals across different governorates reflects the varied political dynamics within the region, with Sulaimani province generating the highest number of challenges. The certification of final results will pave the way for the formation of a new Kurdistan Regional Government.
