The opposition leader highlighted the growing disconnect between Iraq's leadership and its citizens, noting, "There is a vast gap between the people and authority in Iraq. While officials live luxurious lifestyles, thousands of university graduates remain unemployed, creating a severe crisis."
Al-Rikabi also criticized the effectiveness of Iraq's legislative body, stating, "Due to control by political parties, the parliament has been unable to properly perform its duties."
The Imtidad Movement emerged from Iraq's October 2019 protest movement, advocating for political reform and improved governance. Al-Rikabi's comments at the MEPS forum reflect ongoing concerns about Iraq's economic management, unemployment crisis, and the influence of traditional political parties on state institutions.
The movement has been particularly vocal about the disconnect between Iraq's political elite and the general population, especially regarding economic opportunities and public services.
