President Barzani welcomes Ahmed al-Sharaa's statement about Kurds

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – Following the HTS's Leader's statement regarding Kurd people in Rojava, in the west of Kurdistan, on Sunday, President Barzani commended the statement made by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

The President of HTS, Al-Sharaa's perspective about Kurds was lauded and estimated by HH President Barzani, "we welcome Al-Sharaa's perspective about Kurds and future of Syria"   

The text of President Barzani's response  

"In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

"I saw a statement by Ahmed al-Sharaa about the Kurd people in Syria, describing Kurds as a part in the country and partner in the next Syria.

"That perspective is commendable for Kurds and the future of Syria, we welcome it, we hope that this will be a start for correcting the course of history also for correcting the wrong and unhealthy treatment committed on the Kurd people in Syria.

"Such view is conducive to build a strong Syria, the Kurds, Arabs and all other communities in Syria should benefit from this opportunity, to be able to participate, together, to establish a stable, free and democratic Syria." 

Earlier, on Sunday morning, a short video was published, in the video, to respond to a question he was asked regarding Kurds in the northeast of Syria (Rojava), west of Kurdistan, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)'s leader stated "Kurds are part of the country, exposed to an immense oppression, the same way we faced from the overthrown regime, inshalla (God Willing) in the next coming Syria, they will be essential partner, we will live together, each one of us take their own rights according to the law, there will be no more oppression on the Kurds after today, there is imminent history and gate in the new Syria"

Another question he was asked about Kurds in Afrin, his answer was "we will help Afrin people to return to their areas and villages"  

The area, which is in Kurdish authority's control, locates in the northeast of Syria (Rojava), announced, on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, to raise the new Syrian flag over all its councils, settings, organisations and departments in Rojava. 

The Kurdish authority stated "it is the flag of independence that has three colors, green, white and black, with three red stars, symbolizes a new era after the end of more than half a century of oppression by the former Syrian regime"

The administration's statement added "it is decided to raise the flag on all independent councils, agencies, and boards in all of those areas under its authority, taking into considerations that Syrians have the right to celebrate victory and new power."
