ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – According to a report by Kurdistan24’s correspondent in Syria Anwar Abdullatif, hundreds of former Syrian army soldiers and officers have lined up in Tartus Governorate to resolve their individual cases and reconcile with the Military Operations Command.
A former Syrian army officer, Firas Hashem, told Kurdistan24, "I was a Syrian army officer who served in war, but today I am here to surrender and close my file. We were good with civilians and never created problems."
These soldiers from the fallen Assad regime are being registered by the Operations Command, cleared of past actions, and provided with documentation.
The process includes thorough verification and processing of their individual cases.
Issam who is another former officer and held the rank of colonel and served in the naval academy, detailed, "When we were instructed to fight the opposition, we escaped and left the army without engaging in combat. People treated us well."
Issam clarified that he was guided to the Operations Command to have his status cleared, allowing his case to be closed.
Khaled Musa, one of the commanders overseeing the reconciliation process, verified that they are registering the names of those who have come forward, including officers, deputy officers, and soldiers.
"We are issuing them identification cards with photos, recording their service details, including which sector and location they served in," Musa explained.
"After four days, they will receive permanent documentation, after which the leadership will make further decisions about their status," he added.
This development shows a potential path for reintegration and reconciliation for former regime military personnel in Syria.
