ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a potent display of cultural strength, Kurdish schools in Kirkuk celebrated Kurdistan Flag Day on Tuesday, prevailing over past difficulties in national expression.

Dalia Abdullah, principal of the Zanko Secondary Girls' School in Kirkuk, told Kurdistan24, "Today we celebrate the raising of the Kurdistan flag, and we've proudly showed the flag in our school as we do every year."

Hana Hamin, a student at the school, expressed her emotional connection to the flag, stating, "As a Kurdish student, I am very delighted about the flag ceremony. The Kurdish flag is sacred, and I urge the people of Kurdistan to continue to be united to keep our flag flying high."

The importance of Dec. 17th goes back to 1945 when the Kurdish flag was first raised over the institutions of the Kurdistan Republic in Mahabad. This date signifies a profound moment of national identity and ambition.

Despite past challenges in Kirkuk, Kurdish schools have determinedly maintained their cultural traditions.

The flag's rich symbolism continues to resonate: red represents revolution and courage, yellow signifies light and vigilance, white symbolizes peace, and green represents homeland and youth.

Through such commemorations, Kurdish schools in Kirkuk not only honor their national symbols but also reinforce cultural continuity and collective identity in the face of historical adversities.
