Kobani symbolizes the Kurds' courageous fight against ISIS, says German FM
“After 14 years of war, further bloodshed is the last thing the people should experience. Turkey also has a responsibility to preserve Syria's territorial integrity and maintain hope for peace,” the Foreign Minister said.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, in a post on X on Tuesday, referred to Kobani as a symbol of the “Kurds' courageous fight against ISIS.”
“After 14 years of war, further bloodshed is the last thing the people should experience. Turkey also has a responsibility to preserve Syria's territorial integrity and maintain hope for peace,” the Foreign Minister said.
Since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8, by Syria's Turkey-backed armed groups, Turkey has intensified its bombing in the Kobani countryside to put pressure on US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), whom Turkey sees as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (aka PKK).
Turkey also urged its proxies to fight the SDF in the cities of Manbij and Deir ez-Zur, which resulted in the withdrawal of the SDF from both cities. This led the US to broker a ceasefire agreement between the two forces to stop further clashes.
Kobani is a town in northern Syria (Rojava) that gained international attention during the Syrian Civil War. In 2014, it became the focal point of a major battle between Kurdish forces and ISIS, which sought to capture the town. The successful defense of Kobani by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), with support from Peshmerga forces and coalition airstrikes, marked a turning point in the fight against ISIS in the region.
