Erbil (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, according to state news agency SANA, Syria's security forces launched a crackdown against pro-Assad militias in the western province of Tartus.

The operation came a day following violent clashes with gunmen linked to the ousted government of Bashar al-Assad.

SANA reported that the operation has already "neutralized a certain number" of armed men loyal to the former president, without providing further details.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, detailed that several individuals have been detained in connection with Wednesday's clashes.

These clashes underscore the ongoing tensions and fragmented loyalties in post-Assad Syria, as the new administration works to solidify power and address remnants of the former regime.

Further developments are expected as Syrian authorities continue efforts to stabilize the region.
