Iraqi delegation visits Damascus for talks with new Syrian administration
Iraqi government spokesperson confirmed the delegation includes two advisers to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. They will meet Ahmed al-Shara, commander-in-chief of the new Syrian administration, at the Presidential Palace in Damascus.

Erbil (Kurdistan24) – On Thursday, an Iraqi delegation, led by Head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS), Hamid al-Shatri, arrived in Damascus for discussions with the new Syrian leadership, according to the Iraqi government spokesperson Bassem al-Awadi.
Al-Awadi confirmed the Iraqi delegation’s visit to Syria to Kurdistan24.
He also confirmed that delegation consists of two advisers to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. They are scheduled to meet with Ahmed al-Shara, commander-in-chief of the new Syrian administration, at the Presidential Palace in Damascus.
According to al-Awadi, the meeting is set to discuss the recent developments in Syria and protecting security and stability on the border areas between the two countries.
This marks the first official visit by an Iraqi delegation to Syria after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime, signifying a potential change in regional relations and Iraq’s engagement with the new administration in Damascus.
This visit highlights ongoing efforts to navigate diplomatic ties and security cooperation in a region undergoing significant political transformations.
