ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, the press office of Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, issued a statement refuting the latest Lebanese media reports alleging he was trying to establish a new armed group called "Sons of the State" (Abnaa al-Dawla).

"Maliki has total faith in Iraq's security forces for defending the state and political process," the statement highlighted, rebuffing claims that surfaced in Lebanese media outlets two days ago.

The denied reports had claimed that following recent developments in Syria, Nouri al-Maliki had decided to form an armed force called "Sons of the State" to confront potential future threats.

The emergence of such reports comes at a sensitive time in Iraqi politics, as Iraq continues to wrestle with security challenges and the influence of various armed groups.
