Kurdistan Region President, French Ambassador discuss regional stability

The discussions covered ongoing efforts to form a new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), as well as the current status of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Wednesday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Patrick Durel, the French Ambassador to Iraq, to discuss regional stability and a range of important topics impacting the region, according to a statement from Kurdistan Region Presidency.

The discussions covered ongoing efforts to form a new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), as well as the current status of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government. Both parties highlighted the recent progress in the Erbil-Baghdad negotiations, stressing the importance of continuing an open dialogue based on mutual respect and the Constitution.

Another key area of focus was the evolving situation in Syria, particularly the Kurdish issue. Barzani and Durel shared perspectives on the challenges facing the Kurdish people in Syria, emphasizing the need for Kurdish unity and the protection of the rights of all communities in the region.

The meeting also addressed broader regional stability, with both leaders underscoring the importance of upholding peace and security amidst the ongoing challenges of terrorism and other geopolitical concerns.

The discussion was attended by the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, further strengthening the ties between the two regions and underlining the shared commitment to addressing the region’s most pressing issues through cooperation and dialogue.
