PM Barzani and Ahmed Jarba Discuss Syria’s Future Amid Regional Challenges
They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, ensuring security, and upholding the rights of all components of Syrian society.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani discusses the evolving political landscape in Syria and the regional challenges with Ahmad Jarba, the leader of Syria’s Al-Ghad Movement, on Sunday.
According to a statement from the KRG, the meeting focused on key developments in Syria, ongoing changes in the political and security situation, and the future of stability in the region.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, ensuring security, and upholding the rights of all components of Syrian society.
This meeting came on the heels of a separate discussion between President Masoud Barzani and Jarba on the same day, where they exchanged views on Syria’s political and security situation. President Barzani and Jarba emphasized the necessity of cooperation among Syrian political factions to achieve long-term stability and peaceful coexistence in the war-torn country.
Jarba, a key Syrian opposition figure, highlighted the essential role of regional partnerships in addressing Syria's complex challenges. He stressed the importance of inclusive dialogue and a unified approach to rebuilding Syria. President Barzani, in turn, reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and the protection of coexistence in Syria.
Jarba's visit follows a series of high-level meetings between Kurdish delegations from Syria and Turkey with Kurdistan Region leaders, including President Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. In recent months, representatives of Syrian Kurdish political groups, as well as Kurdish political figures from Turkey, have sought guidance from the Barzani leadership on resolving internal divisions and navigating the complex regional dynamics affecting Kurdish aspirations.
In these discussions, President Masoud Barzani has repeatedly underscored the importance of unity among Kurdish political factions, advocating for peaceful dialogue and strategic cooperation to advance the rights and interests of Kurds in both Syria and Turkey.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has also stressed the need for a balanced approach that fosters regional stability while safeguarding Kurdish rights.
Syria has been mired in conflict for over a decade, leading to mass displacement, economic devastation, and increasing geopolitical tensions involving regional and international players. The Al-Ghad Movement, founded by Ahmad Jarba, advocates for a moderate and negotiated resolution to the Syrian crisis, positioning itself as a key actor in efforts to achieve political reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has played a significant role in hosting refugees and facilitating diplomatic engagements to promote peace in Syria. The continuous involvement of the Kurdistan Region’s leadership in regional affairs underscores their commitment to fostering dialogue and stability in the broader Middle East.
