Turkish Airstrikes Kill 12 in Rojava as Cross-Border Attacks Escalate

Among the victims were six civilian workers, and two shepherds, four fighters from local military forces.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - At least 12 people, including both military personnel and civilians, were killed on Wednesday following a series of Turkish airstrikes in the countryside of Al-Shaddadi, south of Hasakah Rojava.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Turkish warplanes and drones launched more than 16 airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure and amilitary post in the Al-Ruwaished desert area.

Deadly Airstrikes on Civilian and Military Targets

Among the victims were six civilian workers, and two shepherds, four fighters from local military forces. One of the strikes hit a civilian vehicle transporting shepherds along the Khirafi road connecting Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah.

In a separate attack, a Turkish drone struck a house in the village of Saqiro, east of Ain Issa, causing significant material damage.

Turkish Artillery Shelling Targets Hasakah Countryside

Simultaneously, Turkish forces stationed in the Kurdish areas occupied by the Syrian National Army in northern Syria (Rojava), intensified their shelling on areas in the Hasakah countryside. Heavy artillery fire targeted the town of Abu Rasin and surrounding villages, severely damaging the town’s automatic bakery and a security forces headquarters, and also shelled the villages of Al-Rabi’at and Al-Bubi, though no immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.

Clashes and Drone Strikes in Northern Syria

Tensions escalated further across northeastern Syria, with intense exchanges of fire between Turkish-backed forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The recent escalation in Rojava has raised concerns among regional and international observers, with calls for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts to maintain stability. Local officials have expressed apprehension over the impact of ongoing military operations on civilians and infrastructure, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue to prevent further tensions. The international community has been urged to support efforts aimed at reducing hostilities and fostering a peaceful resolution to the situation.
