Erbil (Kurdistan24) – Former Kurdish MP from the AK Party in Turkey, Abdurrahman Kurt, emphasized that President Masoud Barzani plays a significant role in safeguarding Kurdish rights and maintaining unity among Kurdish political actors.
Speaking to Kurdistan24, Kurt described President Barzani as “a wise and respected leader for all Kurds,” noting that his consistent stance on defending Kurdish rights is of great importance. “His position does not harm relationships between different sides but rather paves the way for a solution without causing division,” he stated.
Kurdistan Region’s Role in Regional Politics
Kurt highlighted the strategic importance of the Kurdistan Region in regional political dynamics, calling it a symbol of Kurdish dignity. He stressed that despite various pressures, the Kurdistan Region has remained steadfast in its policies. “The Kurdistan Region’s approach has never wavered, even in the face of hostile nationalist attacks,” he noted.
On Abdullah Öcalan and the PKK
Regarding Abdullah Öcalan’s message to the PKK, Kurt stated, “We are at a point where the situation should not deteriorate further, but rather improve.” He also pointed out that armed strategies have not contributed positively to political processes.
The Importance of Kurdish Political Organization
Kurt further elaborated on the necessity of legitimate political institutions for Kurds, stressing that political power and electoral success should take precedence over non-institutional structures. “A strong Kurdish political presence in elections and governance is crucial. Kurds should ensure their influence through legitimate political channels rather than relying on unstructured organizations,” he asserted.
