Britain and France Push for a Peace Proposal to Resolve US-Ukraine Tensions

Keir Starmer underscored that any long-term peace must include the deployment of peacekeeping forces along Ukraine’s borders to ensure stability.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday, that the United Kingdom, in coordination with France, is working on a peace agreement for Ukraine to be presented to US President Donald Trump. 

The move comes in response to recent tensions that emerged between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting in Washington.

A Diplomatic Initiative for Stability

Speaking at a summit in London, Starmer emphasized that diplomatic efforts are crucial to resolving the disagreements that surfaced between the two leaders on Feb. 28, 2025.

"The only viable solution to these tensions is to present a peace proposal to President Trump," Starmer said, highlighting the joint efforts between London and Paris.

He stressed that the UK and France are taking the right steps in addressing the matter and affirmed that discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron are ongoing to finalize the framework of the proposed peace agreement.

Additionally, Starmer underscored that any long-term peace must include the deployment of peacekeeping forces along Ukraine’s borders to ensure stability.

Strengthening Military and Economic Support for Kyiv

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited London, where he was received by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During the visit, the two leaders signed an agreement committing over $2 billion in additional military and financial support for Kyiv.

Following his meeting with Zelensky, Starmer held a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss their coordinated diplomatic efforts regarding Ukraine.

Western Allies Reaffirm Support for Ukraine

Earlier on Sunday, leaders and senior officials from 15 nations allied with Ukraine gathered in London to discuss increasing economic pressure on Russia and reaffirming their military and financial backing for Kyiv in its confrontation with Moscow.

Meanwhile, the European Union has scheduled an emergency summit for Thursday, March 6, 2025, to further assess the evolving situation in Ukraine and explore additional measures to support the country.
