ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Three individuals affiliated with the Syrian regime's military intelligence were killed, and three others, including a child, were wounded in an armed attack in the town of Sanamin in Daraa province.

The attack, carried out by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, underscores the persistent instability and targeted violence in southern Syria, where regime forces and their affiliates continue to face mounting threats.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the three victims were former members of the Assad regime's military intelligence branch. Their targeted killing reflects the ongoing volatility in Daraa, a province that has remained a focal point of resistance and insurgency since the Syrian uprising began in 2011.

The local news outlet Daraa 24 identified the slain individuals as Osama Mohammed Atma, also known as "Alawuts," Nour Jumaa, and Ali Imad. The three wounded individuals, including a child, were at the scene when the attack occurred.

Daraa 24 further reported that the deceased were associated with a group led by Mohsen al-Himid, a former operative of the military security branch under the Assad regime. Al-Himid’s group had been actively involved in armed confrontations, making them potential targets in the ongoing cycle of retaliatory attacks and factional violence in the region.

Daraa, known as the birthplace of the Syrian revolution, was recaptured by the Assad regime in 2018 following a Russian-brokered reconciliation deal that allowed opposition fighters to remain in the area while surrendering heavy weaponry. However, the province has since been plagued by assassinations, ambushes, and insurgent activities targeting regime personnel, former rebels, and those accused of collaborating with Damascus.
