ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a significant step toward achieving round-the-clock electricity access, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has expanded its national 24-hour electricity service to four additional neighborhoods in Erbil. This latest development, part of the ambitious Runaki (Light) Project, underscores the KRG's commitment to improving essential services and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.

The KRG Ministry of Electricity announced on Saturday that the neighborhoods of Zanyari, Ta'jil, Araban, and Minara have been integrated into the 24-hour electricity grid.

This expansion directly benefits approximately 12,500 new subscribers, further solidifying the project's impact across the city.

The Runaki Project has already transformed power access for many residents of Erbil. Before this latest expansion, 17 neighborhoods with 65,000 subscribers had already gained uninterrupted electricity.

These neighborhoods include Shadi, New Bahari, Naznaz, Bakhtiari, Sarbasti, Kuran, Kurdistan, Majidawa, Rizgari, Bahar, Krekaran, Azadi, Rasti, Nishtiman, Raperin, Nawroz, and Mardin. With the addition of the four new areas, the initiative now serves a total of 21 neighborhoods, benefiting approximately 77,500 subscribers and impacting around 265,000 citizens.

The Runaki Project is a cornerstone of the KRG’s broader infrastructure and development strategy, aimed at enhancing the reliability and sustainability of the region’s power supply. By expanding access to uninterrupted electricity, the project is not only addressing the immediate needs of residents but also fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and improved public services.

The Ministry of Electricity has reassured citizens that support is available for any questions or concerns regarding the service. Residents can contact the Roonaki Project Service Center at 1992, where assistance is available daily from 9 AM to 9 PM.

This expansion marks another milestone in the KRG’s ongoing efforts to modernize the electricity sector and reduce reliance on private generators, a move that has been widely welcomed by residents and businesses alike. As the project progresses, authorities remain committed to extending reliable electricity to more areas, ensuring that all citizens of Erbil benefit from a stable and continuous power supply.
