U.S. Congressman Affirms Commitment to Kurdish Protection and Middle East Peace
“I absolutely want to return to my ancestral homeland. I am one-quarter Kurdish—my mother’s father was Kurdish," said Abe Hamadeh

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – U.S. Congressman Abe Hamadeh emphasized Washington's commitment to protecting the Kurdish people and ensuring lasting peace in the Middle East, describing the recent agreement between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa as a crucial step forward in securing Kurdish rights.
A Significant Step for Kurdish Rights
In an exclusive statement to Kurdistan24, Hamadeh expressed his support for the agreement, viewing it as a starting point for ensuring Kurdish interests are safeguarded.
“I see the agreement as a good beginning. We must recognize that the Kurds must be protected, and I want to ensure their rights and interests are preserved,” Hamadeh stated.
He underscored the importance of a unified Syria and the need to end bloodshed, highlighting the devastation caused by the prolonged conflict.
“This is an important step. The United States plays a critical role in protecting our allies like the Kurds, who stood by us in the fight against ISIS,” he added.
Trump’s Vision for Peace
Hamadeh also reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s dedication to achieving peace in the Middle East, stressing that his administration remains focused on stability and security in the region.
“President Trump is committed to peace. He wants to ensure stability and understands what is best for our military forces. Our troops are not meant to stay forever, but we also acknowledge the importance of our alliances,” he said.
Personal Ties to Kurdistan
Reflecting on his Kurdish heritage, Hamadeh expressed his desire to visit Kurdistan, emphasizing his deep-rooted connection to the region.
“I absolutely want to return to my ancestral homeland. I am one-quarter Kurdish—my mother’s father was Kurdish. Believe it or not, his last name was Kurdi. So, I’m excited to visit Kurdistan, not just in Iraq, but also in Syria and the entire region,” he stated.
A Hopeful Future for the Kurds
Expressing optimism about the future of the Kurdish people, Hamadeh commended the resilience of the Kurdish nation, calling them their own greatest asset.
“The best capital for the Kurdish people is the Kurds themselves. They are strong when they are united. Politically and ideologically, they can achieve anything,” he said.
