DAANES criticizes new Syrian constitution, calls for inclusive governance

DAANES asserted that the document “contradicts the reality of Syria and its diversity” and does not represent the country’s various ethnic and religious communities, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, and Assyrians.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) has criticized a constitutional declaration announced by the interim government in Damascus, stating that it fails to reflect Syria’s diverse population.

DAANES asserted that the document “contradicts the reality of Syria and its diversity” and does not represent the country’s various ethnic and religious communities, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, and Assyrians.

Syria's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa signed a temporary constitution that leaves the country under Islamist rule for five years during a transitional phase.

While many were pleased to see the end of the Assad family's dictatorial rule of over 50 years in the war-torn country, religious and ethnic minorities have remained skeptical of the new Islamist leaders. They are reluctant to allow Damascus, under its new authorities, to assert control over their areas.
