PKK leader Cemîl Bayik calls for conditions to hold party congress
“Special conditions must be created for the PKK congress. If this is done, the congress will be held, and Abdulla Öcalan’s decisions will be implemented,” Bayik stated.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Cemîl Bayik, Vice-Chairman of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council and a founding member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), emphasized the need to create favorable conditions for the PKK congress in a televised interview with Sterk TV on Friday.
“Special conditions must be created for the PKK congress. If this is done, the congress will be held, and Abdulla Öcalan’s decisions will be implemented,” Bayik stated. He also accused certain parties in Turkey of attempting to create chaos.
Bayik welcomed the recent agreement between Mazloum Abdi, commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and Ahmed al-Shara, a Syrian transitional president, calling it a “good start.”
His remarks follow a statement issued on February 27, when the Imrali delegation conveyed a message from PKK leader Abdulla Öcalan after meeting with him. At a press conference, Ahmet Türk, the dismissed mayor of Mardin, read Öcalan’s message, which underscored the PKK’s origins as a response to political suppression and advocated for a shift toward peaceful democratic engagement.
“The PKK must lay down its weapons, dissolve itself, and hold a congress,” Öcalan’s message stated, adding that he was ready to take responsibility for the decision and guarantee peace talks.
