Kurdish Diaspora Unites in Cologne to Celebrate Newroz and Demand Rights in Syria
The Kurdish Diaspora confederation expects thousands of attendees, including political representatives, activists, and members of the Kurdish community
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) — The Kurdish community in Germany is set to host one of the largest Newroz celebrations in Cologne on Saturday, with a strong call for the recognition of Kurdish rights in Syria.
Herman Ahmed, Head of Media for the Kurdish Diaspora Union, told Kurdistan 24 that the event will bring together Kurds from all parts of Kurdistan, symbolizing unity and resilience. "Tomorrow, we will celebrate Newroz with the participation of Kurds from all regions of Kurdistan, supported by the Kurdish Diaspora confederation. Alongside traditional Kurdish music and dance performances, we will voice our demands for the rights of Kurds in Western Kurdistan (Rojava)," Ahmed said.
A Unified Voice for Kurdish Rights
As part of the celebration, organizers plan to read a memorandum addressed to European governments and international institutions, urging them to support the inclusion of Kurdish rights in Syria's new constitution. "The memorandum will highlight our call for the recognition of the Kurdish people’s rights in Syria and emphasize the importance of constitutional guarantees to protect their identity and ensure their representation," Ahmed added.
Newroz: A Celebration of Resistance and Hope
Newroz, a festival marking the Kurdish New Year and symbolizing freedom and resistance, holds particular significance for Kurds worldwide. In Cologne, the festival will serve as a platform to amplify the voices of Kurds advocating for their political and cultural rights.
"This year’s celebration will not only honor our rich traditions but also stand as a testament to the ongoing struggle of the Kurdish people for justice and recognition," Ahmed concluded.
