U.S. Launches New Wave of Airstrikes on Houthi Targets in Yemen
Houthi media reports U.S. airstrikes targeting Sanaa and northern Yemen as Washington responds to escalating rebel aggression in the Red Sea.

Erbil (Kurdistan24) – The United States launched fresh airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen late Wednesday, responding to ongoing threats from the Iran-backed rebel group. The strikes targeted sites in the capital, Sanaa, and key northern provinces, as reported by Houthi media.
According to the Houthis' Al-Masirah news channel, U.S. forces carried out multiple strikes on southern and northern Sanaa, following 19 earlier raids across the country. These included 17 airstrikes on the Saada governorate and two on Amran province. The U.S. has yet to officially confirm the latest operations.
The U.S. intervention comes amid escalating Houthi aggression in the Red Sea and beyond. Earlier on Wednesday, a Houthi military spokesperson claimed that the group had targeted “enemy warships in the Red Sea, led by the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.” The Iran-backed militia also alleged a drone attack on Tel Aviv, though Israel has not reported any such incident.
Houthi media accused the U.S. of striking an oncology hospital under construction in Saada, an allegation that follows a pattern of rebel claims often used to garner international sympathy. The hospital was reportedly hit last week as well, with the Houthi-run health ministry claiming two civilians were wounded, branding the strike a “war crime.” However, independent verification of these claims remains challenging, as the Houthis have been known to exaggerate civilian casualties and use medical facilities as shields.
U.S. Efforts to Counter Houthi Threats
The latest U.S. strikes are part of broader efforts to contain the Houthis, who have increasingly disrupted global trade and regional stability. Since the start of the Israel-Gaza conflict, the Houthis have intensified their attacks on international shipping lanes, particularly in the Red Sea, endangering vital global commerce. The U.S., alongside its allies, has taken decisive military action to deter these threats and protect international waters.
The Houthis, backed by Iran, have long destabilized Yemen through their insurgency against the internationally recognized government. Their missile and drone attacks not only threaten regional security but also reflect Tehran’s broader ambitions to undermine U.S. influence in the Middle East.
Trump Administration’s Stance
The Trump administration has reiterated its commitment to countering Houthi aggression while avoiding unnecessary escalation. U.S. officials have consistently emphasized that these strikes are defensive measures aimed at protecting American and allied assets. Despite the Houthis’ accusations of “American aggression,” the reality remains that their unchecked hostility has necessitated firm responses from Washington.
As tensions continue, the U.S. and its partners remain vigilant against further provocations, reaffirming their commitment to securing vital trade routes and deterring Iran-backed threats across the region.
