PM Masrour Barzani Extends Condolences to Victims of Myanmar and Thailand Earthquake

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his condolences to the victims of the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Friday,PM Barzani conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.

“I am deeply saddened by the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Myanmar and Thailand,” the PM wrote.

The Prime Minister further stated, “My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and I wish everyone affected relief and recovery.” 

A Devastating Earthquake Strikes Southeast Asia

The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, struck central Myanmar on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor caused structural damage in the capital Naypyidaw, while strong shaking was felt as far as Thailand and China’s Yunnan province.

In Bangkok, buildings sustained significant damage, and an under-construction skyscraper collapsed, trapping 43 workers under the rubble, according to Thai police and emergency responders.

Authorities also reported that metro and light rail services in Bangkok were temporarily suspended due to the quake’s impact. Meanwhile, Chinese seismic authorities registered the tremor at a magnitude of 7.9, highlighting its intensity.

Humanitarian Concerns and Response

The earthquake has raised concerns over the safety of those still trapped under collapsed structures, with ongoing rescue efforts in both Myanmar and Thailand. International aid organizations have begun mobilizing assistance to the affected regions, while local authorities work to assess the full scale of the disaster.
