KRG Interior Minister: Al-Hol Camp a Global Security Concern Requiring Collective Action
Speaking to Kurdistan24, Minister Ahmed warned that a significant number of individuals with ties to ISIS—both members and their families—remain housed in the al-Hol camp, located near the Syria-Iraq border.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed on Tuesday described the al-Hol camp in northeast Syria (Rojava) as a "sensitive and important issue not only for Iraq but for the whole world," calling for international cooperation to resolve the ongoing security threat posed by the camp.
Speaking to Kurdistan24, Minister Ahmed warned that a significant number of individuals with ties to ISIS—both members and their families—remain housed in the al-Hol camp, located near the Syria-Iraq border.
He emphasized that the process of repatriating ISIS-affiliated individuals must be handled with extreme caution. "The return of ISIS relatives from the al-Hol camp to their countries requires a thorough investigation," Ahmed said, noting that multiple security agencies are actively working on the issue.
The minister urged the international community to treat the situation with urgency and cooperation. “The issue of the al-Hol camp must be resolved with the participation of everyone,” he stressed.
Al-Hol camp, situated near the town of al-Hol in Syria’s Hasakah province, currently hosts thousands of individuals displaced from areas formerly controlled by ISIS. The camp has long been considered a flashpoint for radicalization and instability in the region.
KRG officials have consistently advocated for a coordinated international approach to dismantle the threat posed by the camp, warning that failure to act could allow extremist ideologies to spread further.
