ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received a delegation from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) on Thursday afternoon to discuss the prospects of reviving a peace process to end decades of conflict.

The DEM Party delegation included Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder and senior lawmaker Pervin Buldan. The key focus of the meeting was exploring a new phase of reconciliation.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at a press conference, Önder stated, “We cannot call this meeting 'historic '- which depends on the will of the people,” underscoring the broader public’s role in determining the success of any peace effort.

President Erdogan previously announced his readiness to engage in dialogue, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to building a “terror-free Turkey” and signaling openness to political dialogue as a path toward lasting peace.

According to Turkish media reports, following high-level talks with Erdogan, the DEM Party delegation is scheduled to visit the island of Imrali for a fourth meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Öcalan is expected to reiterate a call for disarmament as part of the broader peace roadmap.

Sources suggest the PKK may hold a dissolution congress later this month, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape and a new chapter in Turkey’s approach to resolving the Kurdish issue through democratic and peaceful means.
