IHEC Launches Preparations for Upcoming Parliamentary Elections with New Biometric Innovations
Deputy Head of the Election Administration Mohannad Fazel Abbas announced on Friday that the registration period for coalitions, political parties, candidate lists, and independent candidates will open on Tuesday, running from April 15 to May 4.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has officially kicked off preparations for the country’s sixth round of parliamentary elections, bringing new momentum and innovation to Iraq’s democratic process.
Deputy Head of the Election Administration Mohannad Fazel Abbas announced on Friday that the registration period for coalitions, political parties, candidate lists, and independent candidates will open on Tuesday, running from April 15 to May 4. This marks a key milestone as Iraq moves toward its next national vote.
In a significant step forward, the IHEC is also working to modernize its voting system. After challenges in the 2021 elections related to fingerprint verification, the commission is now exploring the use of facial recognition technology. According to Kurdistan24, IHEC is currently in talks with a private firm to allow voters to cast their ballots using Face ID, ensuring a smoother and more secure voting experience for those registered in the biometric database.
These initiatives highlight the IHEC's commitment to strengthening electoral integrity and improving accessibility for voters across the country.
