ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a continuation of high-level dialogue, senior representatives of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) convened in Erbil on Tuesday for a political meeting described by both sides as "very cordial," according to KDP spokesperson Mahmoud Mohammed.

Speaking to Kurdistan24, Mohammed confirmed that a follow-up meeting will be held in Sulaimani in the next two days, where both parties are expected to delve deeper into the specifics of forming the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet—particularly regarding the distribution of ministerial and administrative posts.

The meeting marks a new phase in the ongoing negotiations between the region’s two largest parties, which have held several rounds of discussions aimed at laying the groundwork for a cohesive and capable government. Previous meetings have already produced a preliminary working draft designed to institutionalize a collaborative governance model that responds to the public’s expectations.

In recent weeks, the two political camps have succeeded in narrowing key areas of disagreement, signaling a mutual commitment to a genuine partnership and a more efficient administrative apparatus. Both sides have reiterated their desire to create a government capable of navigating the economic and political challenges currently facing the Kurdistan Region.

The KDP delegation in Tuesday’s meeting comprised prominent political figures, including Hoshyar Zebari, a member of the KDP's executive body, alongside Politburo member Pshtiwan Sadiq, Central Committee member Dilshad Shahab, and Umed Sabah, also from the party’s Central Committee.

On the PUK side, the delegation was led by Qubad Talabani, head of the Secretariat Office of Jalal Talabani, joined by Amanj Rahim, Secretary of the Council of Ministers, Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Politburo member, Nizar Amedi, Politburo member, Rewaz Faiq, Politburo member, and Shalaw Salah Sheikh Sharaf, Politburo member.

The parties affirmed their intention to reach a comprehensive agreement that not only reflects political parity but also enhances institutional performance. As preparations continue, public attention remains focused on the next steps in forming a cabinet that will embody unity, legitimacy, and service-oriented governance across all of Kurdistan.
