ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, received Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on Wednesday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional challenges.

The high-level meeting focused on Iraq’s political and security landscape, as well as broader regional stability, with both sides underscoring the need for sustained dialogue amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

PM Barzani and Khatibzadeh discussed mechanisms to further enhance relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The discussions also touched on ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, with both officials stressing the importance of de-escalation and diplomacy in ensuring regional stability.

Reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s neutral and constructive stance, Barzani emphasized the value of mutual respect and dialogue in conflict resolution. "Diplomacy remains the best path to fostering coexistence and resolving disputes," he said.

The meeting follows PM Barzani’s remarks at the recent Ninth Sulaimani Forum 2025, where he reiterated Erbil’s commitment to mediating regional tensions. “Should we succeed in helping consolidate peace and stability, that would be a major achievement. But Kurdistan must not become a party to these unfortunate and convoluted conflicts — neither in the interest of our people nor that of our neighbors.”
