ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — President Masoud Barzani extended his heartfelt Easter wishes to Christians in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of coexistence, tolerance, and mutual respect among all religious and ethnic groups in the region.

In a message marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Barzani praised Kurdistan’s long-standing culture of peaceful coexistence and called for it to be protected and further enriched. “On this sacred occasion of the resurrection of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), I extend my warmest congratulations to our Christian sisters and brothers in Kurdistan, Iraq, and around the world,” he stated.

Barzani’s message highlighted the pride the Kurdish people take in their culture of unity and forgiveness, describing it as a valuable treasure that must be preserved and strengthened. “We reaffirm our commitment to the culture of coexistence, fraternity, and tolerance among all religious and ethnic groups in Kurdistan,” he added. “Coexistence and forgiveness are a source of pride for the people of Kurdistan and must be safeguarded and further deepened.”

He concluded his message with a hopeful note for all communities: “I wish a blessed Easter and pray for happiness and prosperity for all.

Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, holds deep spiritual significance for Christians worldwide. In Iraq, where Christians have faced displacement, persecution, and violence in recent decades, many now reside in the Kurdistan Region, which has become a refuge known for its pluralism and religious freedom.

President Barzani, a prominent Kurdish leader and former President of the Kurdistan Region, has long been a vocal advocate for religious tolerance and unity. His consistent engagement with minority communities, including Christians, Yazidis, and others, reflects a broader vision of Kurdistan as a bastion of multicultural coexistence in the Middle East.

Barzani’s Easter message underscores a foundational principle of the Kurdish political and cultural identity: embracing diversity as a strength and fostering peace through mutual respect. His words come at a time when regional tensions persist, offering a reminder of the unifying values that continue to shape the Kurdistan Region's role as a safe haven for all faiths and peoples.
