ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A top Iraqi government delegation arrived in Damascus on Friday for official talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and senior government officials. The delegation is led by Hamid al-Shatri, Head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service.
The visiting group includes key figures such as the commander of the Iraqi border guards and representatives from the Ministries of Oil, Trade and Industry, as well as the Border Gate Authority—highlighting the comprehensive nature of the discussions.
According to the Iraqi Prime Minister’s press office, the talks focused on deepening cooperation in areas critical to both nations, particularly combating terrorism and enhancing security measures at shared border points. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to countering cross-border threats and improving coordination to maintain regional stability.
Economic collaboration also featured prominently in the discussions. Delegates explored opportunities to expand bilateral trade and examined prospects for repairing and reactivating oil pipelines that would allow Iraq to transport crude through Syrian territory to the Mediterranean—a move that could offer mutual economic benefits.
