Jordan's House of Representatives Speaker in Erbil to Boost Regional Cooperation

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — In a diplomatic gesture highlighting deepening ties between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region, Ahmed Safadi, Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, arrived in Erbil on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Landing at Erbil International Airport, Speaker Safadi was warmly welcomed by high-ranking officials, including Shakhawan Abdullah, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil. The visit marks an important moment in parliamentary and diplomatic relations between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kurdistan Region, and Iraq more broadly.

According to information obtained by Kurdistan24, Speaker Safadi is scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Parliament on Saturday, where he is expected to meet with senior Kurdish lawmakers and officials to discuss strengthening legislative cooperation and broader political and economic ties.

This visit comes amid increasing diplomatic and economic engagement between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region. In recent years, Amman and Erbil have cultivated closer relations across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. Jordan has consistently expressed support for the stability and development of the Kurdistan Region, recognizing its strategic importance within Iraq and the wider Middle East.

Safadi's visit is anticipated to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation, reinforcing Jordan's long-standing policy of fostering strong relations with Iraq’s diverse regions and communities.
