ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – As the Kurdish National Unity and Solidarity Conference convenes today, in Qamishlo, senior Kurdish leaders are emphasizing the historic significance of the gathering, with special acknowledgment of President Masoud Barzani’s decisive support for Kurdish unity.

President Barzani's Enduring Commitment to Kurdish Solidarity

Speaking to Kurdistan 24, Mohammad Ismail, the Head of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS), underscored the critical role played by President Barzani in championing Kurdish unity and coherence. “President Barzani’s commitment to Kurdish national causes has earned deep respect, not only among Kurdish political forces but also within international circles,” Ismail stated.

He affirmed that President Barzani’s vision and leadership are widely regarded as foundational pillars for advancing Kurdish cohesion. "His unwavering support and proactive efforts have paved the way for today’s conference, offering a strong moral and political backing for the Kurdish people," he added.

Ismail noted that the presence of Dr. Hamid Darbandi, President Barzani’s envoy, at the conference is a tangible manifestation of Barzani’s commitment to fostering Kurdish unity at this crucial juncture. "The envoy’s participation reiterates the importance President Barzani places on building a collective Kurdish front," Ismail said.

A Historic Day for Kurds Across the Parts of Kurdistan

Describing today as a “historic day” for Kurds across all parts of Kurdistan, Ismail remarked that the Kurdish National Unity and Solidarity Conference in Qamishlo is not merely a gathering but a milestone for collective Kurdish aspirations. "This event represents a major step towards consolidating Kurdish unity and strengthening national identity," he asserted.

Regarding the political future of Syria, Ismail confirmed that Kurdish parties are determined to form a unified delegation to engage in negotiations with the future Syrian government. “Our goal is to secure the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people within a democratic, federal framework for Syria,” he emphasized.

Broad Participation Across Rojava and Beyond

The conference, held under the patronage of President Barzani and with international support, has drawn the participation of nearly 50 Kurdish political parties, along with approximately 400 dignitaries from western Kurdistan, northern Kurdistan, and Kurdish figures from Aleppo, Damascus, Azaz, Hama, and al-Bab.

The objective of the conference is clear: to reaffirm Kurdish unity and to establish a joint Kurdish delegation capable of effectively representing Kurdish demands in negotiations over Syria’s future governance.

Over the past months, preparations for the conference included consultations between the Kurdish National Council in Syria, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and Mazloum Abdi the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander, ensuring broad Kurdish representation and consensus.

An Ambitious Step Towards National Cohesion

Dr. Hamid Darbandi, who arrived in Rojava yesterday, stressed the significance of the Kurdish unity conference during his meetings with Kurdish leaders. "The unity and solidarity of the Kurdish people are essential to building a democratic Syria where the rights of all peoples are safeguarded," he noted.

Today’s conference is expected to mark the beginning of a new phase for Kurdish national unity efforts, aiming to establish a foundation for a cohesive and inclusive Kurdish political front at a critical moment in Syrian history.
