Erbil Unveils Ambitious Plan to Reuse Wastewater and Protect the Environment
Zardasht Sarsam, Director of Water and Sewerage, on Sunday told Kurdistan24 that under Erbil’s new master plan, four water reuse units will be established across the city, with additional expansion planned in future phases.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Director of Water and Sewerage in Erbil announced a major environmental initiative to integrate the city’s entire sewerage system into a specialized water reuse program, marking a significant step toward sustainability and public health.
Zardasht Sarsam, Director of Water and Sewerage, on Sunday told Kurdistan24 that under Erbil’s new master plan, four water reuse units will be established across the city, with additional expansion planned in future phases.
"Currently, our program includes the construction of a water reuse unit for treatment," Sarsam said. “The goal is to purify wastewater and repurpose it, which will contribute to a cleaner earth and a healthier atmosphere.”
He emphasized that ongoing efforts are focused on directing all sewage through these advanced treatment units to ensure comprehensive purification.
The initiative reflects Erbil’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability, water conservation, and public health improvements amid rapid urban development.
