ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Consul of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Erbil, Fuad Al-Majali, has lauded the Kurdistan Region for its notable strides in both general and higher education, describing its academic standards as exemplary within the region.

In an exclusive statement to Kurdistan24, Al-Majali expressed pride in the increasingly robust ties between Jordan’s Ministry of Higher Education and its counterpart in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), highlighting the strategic value of sustained educational engagement between the two sides.

Landmark University Forum Bolsters Recognition

Reflecting on a key achievement in 2024, Al-Majali recalled the academic forum held in the Kurdistan Region, attended by 21 university presidents from Jordan. He emphasized that the gathering significantly contributed to the mutual recognition of academic institutions and knowledge-sharing between the two entities.

“The forum laid the groundwork for recognition of 20 Jordanian universities by the Kurdistan Region,” he noted, underscoring that this recognition opens doors for Kurdish students to pursue higher education in Jordan with increased access and credibility.

Students Move Across Borders in Both Directions

The consul also pointed out that a growing number of Jordanian students are now pursuing academic degrees in the Kurdistan Region, attracted by its reputable universities and internationally recognized academic programs. He emphasized that Jordan’s reciprocal recognition of these institutions is fostering greater academic mobility and regional integration.

Cultural and Climatic Affinities Unite Two Nations

At a press conference held in Erbil, Jordan’s Media Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Head of the Unified Admission Coordination Unit, Muhannad Al-Khatib, described the Middle East as a confluence of ancient and modern civilizations, with Jordan and the Kurdistan Region at its cultural heart.

Al-Khatib highlighted the historical depth and rich cultural diversity that both Jordan and Kurdistan embody. He noted the striking similarities between the two, particularly in their tourist appeal and civilizational wealth.

“Jordan,” he stated, “is home to prominent religious and historical sites such as the Companions' tombs and the Yarmouk plains, alongside stunning natural landscapes that make it one of the region’s top tourist destinations.”

Stability and Advanced Education Define Jordan’s Appeal

Drawing attention to environmental parallels, Al-Khatib observed that both Jordan and Kurdistan enjoy relatively moderate summer climates, while some Jordanian regions experience snowfall during winter months. He also stressed that Jordan’s hallmark remains its internal security and stable environment.

Al-Khatib affirmed that Jordan boasts an advanced educational system and internationally accredited universities, enhancing its profile as a regional academic hub. He concluded by emphasizing that the shared values of education, culture, and peaceful coexistence continue to underpin the dynamic partnership between Amman and Erbil.
