ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced on Friday the successful conclusion of its 12th Congress, which was held between May 5 and 7 in the Medya Defense Zones. According to an official statement, the congress took place in two parallel sessions, with delegates from across the organization participating.

The congress was convened in response to a call by PKK founder Abdullah Ocalan, currently imprisoned in Turkey. Delegates began proceedings by expressing respect and recognition for Ocalan and reviewing his written perspectives and proposals presented to the congress.

Central to the meeting were discussions on strategic direction and organizational goals. The PKK leadership described the decisions made during the congress as “historic,” though details of these decisions have yet to be fully disclosed. Party officials stated that comprehensive information on the outcomes will be released once deliberations from both congress sites are consolidated.

Further updates and documentation from the congress are expected to be released to the public in the near future.

On Feb. 27, Ocalan, through a message conveyed by veteran Kurdish politician Ahmet Türk, called on the PKK to lay down arms — a move widely regarded as a significant milestone toward potential peace negotiations between the Kurdish movement and Ankara.
