ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — In an exclusive interview with Kurdistan24 on Friday, former US National Security Advisor Michael Flynn praised the longstanding relationship between the United States and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing shared sacrifice and mutual commitment as the foundation of their enduring partnership.

Flynn described the bond between the US and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces as "exceptional and long-lasting," stating, “The relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the United States—and the Peshmerga, which is a key component of the Kurdistan Region—is exceptional and long-lasting, based on shared sacrifice.”

He acknowledged the significant contributions and sacrifices made by the people of the Kurdistan Region, adding, “I believe they’ve done so for America as well. We’ve had strong relationships with the people of the Kurdistan Region for many years—well over a couple of decades.”

Turning to domestic politics, Flynn urged the leadership of the Kurdistan Region to prioritize unity and transparency. “The leadership—the president, the prime minister, and their team- need to understand the importance of unity,” he said.

Flynn encouraged Kurdish leaders to rally around a unified message and to invest in their greatest asset: the people. “Leverage the strength of your people, and you can build a strong future—one that I hope will lead to a nation-state of Kurdistan.”
