Iraq Imports Over 77,000 Tonnes of Australian Wheat in 2024
The data shows that Iraq received 77,723 tonnes of Australian wheat at an average price of $326 per tonne, amounting to a total of $25.335 million. The shipment represented around 1% of Australia’s total wheat exports for the year.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq imported more than 77,000 tonnes of wheat from Australia in 2024, valued at over $25 million, according to the latest figures released by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture.
The data shows that Iraq received 77,723 tonnes of Australian wheat at an average price of $326 per tonne, amounting to a total of $25.335 million. The shipment represented around 1% of Australia’s total wheat exports for the year.
In addition to international imports, Iraq also sourced a significant amount of wheat domestically through an agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi Ministry of Trade. Under the deal, the federal government purchased 700,000 tonnes of wheat from the Kurdistan Region in 2024. This included 228,000 tonnes from Erbil, 282,000 tonnes from Sulaimani, and 189,000 tonnes from Duhok.
The combined efforts reflect Iraq’s ongoing strategy to secure food supplies through both international trade and regional agricultural production.
