Kurdistan Region President Receives FAO Delegation in Erbil

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, food security, and water resources between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the FAO.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region announced on Monday that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a delegation from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), headed by the organization’s Director-General, Qu Dongyu.

The meeting was attended by Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Saywan Barzani, Iraq’s Ambassador to Italy, and Iraq’s Ambassador to the FAO.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, food security, and water resources between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the FAO.

The two sides also exchanged views on the impact of climate change, desertification, water scarcity, and the challenges posed by environmental degradation to agriculture, water, and food systems.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude and appreciation for the FAO’s work and programs in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly its role in implementing development projects and promoting food security. He reaffirmed the full support of relevant institutions in the Kurdistan Region for the FAO’s efforts and initiatives.

For his part, Qu Dongyu praised the Kurdistan Region’s strong focus on agriculture and reiterated the FAO’s readiness to expand cooperation and implement strategic programs that contribute to the sustainable development goals in the Region.
