ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday its plan to open a permanent legal book exhibition titled "Justice Exhibition for Books" in the coming days, aiming to promote legal awareness among the public, students, and professionals.

According to a Facebook post by the Ministry of Justice on May 27, 2025, the exhibition will be located inside a newly established second-floor annex adjacent to the ministry's main building, situated along Ankawa Main Street in Erbil. The exhibition will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. until evening hours and will remain open permanently.

Ministry spokesperson Nariman Talib told Kurdistan24 that the exhibition will officially open after the Eid al-Adha holiday and will be a long-term initiative. “The library and exhibition area are being prepared as a permanent space outside the main ministry offices,” Talib said. “It will provide access to legal books and resources in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.”

In addition to offering reading materials, the exhibition will sell legal books at affordable prices. However, Talib emphasized that the project is not driven by commercial goals. “Our objective is not financial gain,” he said. “The aim is to enhance legal awareness by offering access to important and international resources in the field of law—especially for law students, researchers, and legal professionals.”

Expanding Legal Knowledge in Kurdistan

The initiative is the latest effort by the ministry to make legal knowledge more accessible and widespread. Since its establishment in 2020, the Legal Research Center at the Ministry of Justice has published 25 books in the legal field and printed an additional 25 pamphlets. It has also released 12 issues of its legal journal titled "Social Contract," along with four special issues dedicated to the publication of academic research presented at legal conferences held over the past four years.

This new exhibition space represents a continuation of those efforts, serving as a hub for legal literature and a bridge between legal institutions and the broader public.

By offering legal materials in three languages, the exhibition also reflects the region’s commitment to multilingual access and legal transparency. The ministry’s move comes at a time when increasing public understanding of the law is critical amid growing legal and governance challenges in the region.

As the Kurdistan Region continues to develop its institutions and rule of law, initiatives like this exhibition play a vital role in empowering citizens with the tools and knowledge needed to participate in legal and civic life.
