Masrour Barzani Urges KDP Cadres to Stand Closer to the People and Defend Kurdistan’s Constitutional Rights
“In the face of any attempt to undermine Kurdistan’s rights, the KDP will always be on the frontlines to defend them,” Barzani declared.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Deputy President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), on Saturday, chaired a key meeting with newly appointed heads of the KDP branches, urging them to remain close to the people and steadfast in defending the constitutional rights of the Kurdish nation.
The meeting brought together recently assigned officials from various KDP branches, who have taken on new leadership responsibilities within the party’s organizational structure. In his address, Barzani emphasized the importance of their role, stressing that KDP cadres must serve the people more effectively and engage with them more closely, especially during times of political and economic uncertainty.
He reminded participants that the KDP was founded with the central goal of defending and securing the rights of the Kurdish people. “The party’s primary objective is to serve the people of Kurdistan,” Barzani affirmed, urging party leaders to embody that mission in their daily work.
Barzani also touched on recent political shifts and transformations in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader region. He reiterated that the people of Kurdistan must never relinquish their constitutional rights and should remain committed to the legal framework that guarantees the Region’s autonomy and status within Iraq.
“In the face of any attempt to undermine Kurdistan’s rights, the KDP will always be on the frontlines to defend them,” Barzani declared.
The Kurdistan Region continues to face political, financial, and constitutional challenges, particularly in its dealings with the federal government in Baghdad. Tensions have deepened over budget cuts, delays in public sector salaries, and what Erbil sees as Baghdad’s deliberate attempts to undermine the Region’s autonomy.
Despite constitutional guarantees enshrined in the 2005 Iraqi Constitution, including the right to manage regional affairs and a fair share of national revenue, the Kurdistan Region has frequently been subjected to punitive measures and financial blockades from Baghdad. This has led to mounting frustration among Kurdish leaders and the broader public.
The KDP, the largest and most influential political party in the Region, has consistently advocated for the enforcement of constitutional rights and warned that ongoing violations by the federal government could lead to serious political consequences. Barzani’s recent remarks underscore the party’s resolve to protect the Kurdish people’s hard-earned gains and mobilize leadership to resist centralization efforts that threaten the Region’s autonomy.
