ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — President Masoud Barzani on Sunday welcomed a delegation of tribal chiefs, sheikhs, prominent Arab figures, and elders from Iraq’s Nineveh province at his residence in the Pirmam district of Erbil. The meeting underscored the deep bonds between the Kurdistan Region and the diverse communities of Nineveh and called for strengthened cooperation in the future, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

The visiting delegation extended their heartfelt gratitude to President Barzani and the Kurdish people for sheltering hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Nineveh and other Iraqi provinces during the height of the war against ISIS. They praised the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces, who played a critical role in liberating large swathes of Nineveh from ISIS control, stating that these heroic efforts would be remembered for generations to come.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s stability and prosperity as a model for the rest of Iraq. They urged greater coordination and unity between Nineveh and the Kurdistan Region to address shared challenges and promote development.

The delegation also raised concerns about ongoing economic difficulties and inadequate public services in Nineveh, calling for genuine representation of their communities in the upcoming phases of Iraq’s political process.

In his remarks, President Barzani warmly welcomed the delegation and praised the long-standing ties between the Kurds and Arabs. He reflected on the historical struggles between the Kurdish people and successive Iraqi governments, noting with pride that these tensions had never turned into conflict between the country’s ethnic groups.

Barzani reiterated his belief that Iraq’s post-2003 order was built on the constitutional principles of partnership, balance, and compromise. He emphasized that adhering to these principles remains crucial to addressing Iraq’s political and social challenges.

Expressing support for the concerns of the people of Nineveh, President Barzani emphasized their right to make decisions about their own future and called for a more inclusive and cooperative national dialogue moving forward.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to foster unity, coexistence, and mutual respect among Iraq’s diverse communities.
