Iraqi Communist Party Leader: Kurdistan Region Citizens Must Not Be Held Hostage to Political Disputes
Fahmi criticized the ongoing delays in resolving the salary issue for public employees in the Kurdistan Region, stating that the problem is routinely passed from one government to the next without meaningful action.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Iraqi Communist Party, Raid Fahmi, has called for a clear separation between political disputes and the welfare of citizens in the Kurdistan Region, warning that continued impasses are making people "hostages" to political wrangling.
In an interview with Kurdistan 24 on Tuesday, Fahmi criticized the ongoing delays in resolving the salary issue for public employees in the Kurdistan Region, stating that the problem is routinely passed from one government to the next without meaningful action.
“The citizens and public employees of the Kurdistan Region have become hostages to political disputes. A clear distinction must be made between these disputes and the welfare of citizens," Fahmi said.
He stressed that many of the critical challenges facing Iraq, including federal-regional relations, require constitutional solutions to restore the principles of true federalism.
“We must recognize that the progress of Kurdistan is integral to the progress of all of Iraq,” he added, underlining the importance of political will and adherence to federal principles to resolve ongoing tensions.
Fahmi’s remarks come amid ongoing negotiations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government in Baghdad over budget entitlements, oil exports, and the disbursement of public sector salaries.
