ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Soran Independent Administration witnessed a remarkable influx of tourists during this year’s Eid al-Adha holiday, according to the General Director of Tourism, Faisal Sadiq. The High turnout, particularly on the first and second day of the holiday, underscores the growing appeal of the Kurdistan Region as a premier domestic tourism destination.

Speaking to Kurdistan24’s reporter on Saturday, Sadiq expressed pleasant surprise at the surge in tourist arrivals. “On the first day of Eid al-Adha, we did not expect such a high number of tourists to visit the Soran Independent Administration, but fortunately, a remarkable number arrived,” he stated.

He added that the momentum only grew stronger the following day, “On Saturday, the second day of the Eid, even more people visited the region, which is a source of great satisfaction to us. This is largely thanks to the Kurdistan Regional Government, which has been giving significant attention to the tourism sector, making Kurdistan an increasingly attractive destination each year.”

Sadiq noted that coordination efforts are in place to ensure the region’s tourism infrastructure meets growing demand. “We have been in discussions with the transportation and environment teams regarding waste collection and cleanliness. Cleanliness is a priority, and we don’t want any indication that this administration is neglecting it,” he said.

He further emphasized that maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors is a top priority. “We have a monitoring committee that inspects tourist sites. This is for the benefit of the tourists. Should any inappropriate behavior be observed, we will take strict measures against those responsible,” he stated.

The surge in tourist activity is seen as a positive development for both local businesses and the broader regional economy, and it reflects a growing public confidence in the stability and hospitality of the Soran area during major holidays. Tourism officials believe this trend will continue throughout the summer season, further boosting the profile of Kurdistan’s northern districts as prime destinations for nature lovers and holidaymakers alike.
