ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strongly worded statement denouncing what it described as a “criminal and unjustified” Israeli military attack on its territory, calling for immediate international condemnation and action by the United Nations Security Council.
In the statement released early Friday, the ministry confirmed that several locations across Iran, including residential areas in Tehran and other cities, were targeted in the early morning hours by Israeli strikes. The attack, according to the ministry, resulted in multiple casualties, including what it called “some of the most patriotic defenders and scientific servants of the nation,” as well as innocent civilians.
“This act of aggression by the rogue and occupying Zionist regime represents a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement read. “It is a clear breach of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter and constitutes an act of war against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Foreign Ministry referred to the targeted military personnel who were killed during the Israeli airstrikes as “martyrs” in the defense of Iran’s dignity and technological progress.
Reaffirming its right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter, which provides for self-defense against armed attack, the ministry asserted that Iran’s armed forces “will exercise their legal right to respond in a manner and time of their choosing.”
Tehran called on the UN Security Council to take swift and decisive action to address what it termed a “flagrant breach of international peace and security.” The statement also reminded UN Secretary-General António Guterres of his responsibilities under the Charter, urging him to take immediate steps.
Furthermore, Iran urged all member states of the United Nations—particularly regional and Islamic countries, members of the Non-Aligned Movement, and all nations “concerned about global peace and stability”—to condemn the attack and take coordinated steps to confront what it called “a dangerous and unprecedented threat to international peace.”
“The grave consequences of this aggression fall squarely on the Zionist regime and its backers,” the ministry warned, adding that such a military operation could not have occurred without “coordination and approval from the United States.”
The statement concluded by holding Washington equally accountable, identifying the U.S. as the primary supporter of Israel and thus complicit in the “dangerous fallout” of what it called Israeli adventurism.
