ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Friday, June 13, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel had launched “one of the greatest military operations in history” against Iran, calling the Iranian regime an "evil and oppressive regime."

“We are in the midst of one of the greatest military operations in history, Operation Rising Lion,” Netanyahu declared in a video message released after Israeli forces struck more than 200 military and nuclear sites throughout the Iranian Republic.

The Israeli PM framed the campaign not only as a strategic military response but also as a gesture of solidarity with the Iranian people.

“As we achieve our objective, we are also clearing the path for you to achieve your freedom,” Netanyahu said, noting that the airstrikes killed several top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists.

He emphasized what he views as the vulnerability of Iran’s leadership in the wake of the strikes.

“The regime does not know what hit them, or what will hit them. It has never been weaker,” he said.

Netanyahu urged Iranian citizens to seize what he described as a historic opportunity:

“Our fight is against the murderous Islamic regime that oppresses and impoverishes you,” he continued. “This is your opportunity to stand up and let your voices be heard.”

“The time has come for the Iranian people to unite around its flag and its historic legacy, by standing up for your freedom from the evil and oppressive regime.”

The Israeli Prime Minister also warned that the military campaign was far from over.

“More is on the way,” he said, reaffirming earlier remarks that the offensive would “continue for as many days as it takes.”

Iran Responds: "Declaration of War"

Iran described the Israeli strikes as “a declaration of war” and vowed to retaliate by “opening the gates of hell” on Israel.

In response, Tehran launched around 100 drones toward Israel, many of which were intercepted before reaching their targets. These were followed by dozens of ballistic missiles. While most were shot down, some managed to hit Israeli cities, causing structural damage and injuring at least 41 people, according to emergency services.

The unprecedented escalation marks one of the most intense confrontations between the two regional adversaries and has heightened concerns about a broader Middle East conflict.
