ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced on Saturday that a planned diplomatic meeting between Iran and the United States, originally scheduled to take place in Muscat on Sunday, has been cancelled, amid soaring tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

“The Iran-US talks scheduled to be held in Muscat this Sunday will not now take place,” Albusaidi wrote in a post on X. “But diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace.”

The statement comes just one day after the Omani foreign minister strongly condemned Israel’s military actions against Iran, which have escalated into direct confrontations and drawn regional and international concerns.

“Israel’s unilateral attack on Iran is illegal, unjustifiable, and a grave threat to regional stability,” he said in another X post on Friday. “I condemn it and urge the global community to come together to reject Israeli aggression and support de-escalation and diplomacy with one voice.”

Oman has historically played a quiet yet pivotal role as a regional mediator, particularly between Iran and Western powers. The cancellation of the anticipated Iran-US talks in Muscat marks a significant setback in diplomatic efforts aimed at defusing the crisis.

The statement did not clarify whether the talks have been postponed or canceled indefinitely.

The Gulf nation has consistently advocated for restraint and dialogue amid rising hostilities between Israel and Iran, which have intensified following tit-for-tat attacks targeting military and nuclear infrastructure.
