ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on Saturday, expressed concern over Iraq’s handling of recent developments, stating that Baghdad lacks the capability to preserve its sovereignty amid foreign aggression.
Speaking on the escalating regional tensions, Gharibabadi said Iran has formally stated to Iraq to file a complaint against Israel at the United Nations Security Council following recent Israeli airstrikes.
“Iraq is unable to preserve and control the sovereignty of its territory in the face of aggression,” Gharibabadi stated. He also added, “No one should think that, in this situation, they are supporting Iran.”
The comments come a day after Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Friday, that it had officially filed a complaint against Israel with the UN, accusing the country of violating Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry’s statement emphasized that Israel had breached both Iraqi borders and international law, particularly conventions related to the respect of territorial sovereignty.
The ministry also urged the UN Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibility in addressing what it described as acts of aggression and clear violations by Israel.
The developments follow Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory, during which fighter jets and drones reportedly targeted nuclear facilities, ballistic missile production sites, and resulted in the deaths of several Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists.
