ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office, al-Sudani emphasized Iraq's commitment to preventing the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel.

He also expressed Iraq's readiness to provide all necessary assistance to Iran.

The statement noted that Pezeshkian thanked Iraq for its stance in rejecting Israel's actions, which include repeated attacks on regional countries.

Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of a unified response to Israeli attacks and blatant violations of international law, warning that these actions could also impact other Islamic nations.

The conflict began on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on dozens of military headquarters and nuclear facilities in Tehran and other locations across Iran, deploying more than 200 warplanes. This assault resulted in the deaths of several senior military officials and atomic scientists.

In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds of missiles in response to the ongoing attacks on its territory on Sunday. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that officials in Tel Aviv would pay a heavy price for their aggression.
