Iraq Stands by Iran, Vows to Protect National Security Amid Regional Tensions
Prime Minister al-Sudani emphasized the importance of safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty and implementing all necessary security measures to maintain peace within the country’s borders.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi National Security Council, led by Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, held an extraordinary session on Sunday to review the country’s security posture amid growing regional tensions.
During the high-level meeting, the Council reaffirmed Iraq's support for regional ally Iran in the face of an escalating conflict with Israel and expressed readiness to offer assistance if required. The statement emphasized Iraq’s principled stance on backing regional stability and opposing aggression.
Prime Minister al-Sudani emphasized the importance of safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty and implementing all necessary security measures to maintain peace within the country’s borders. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to combating disinformation and holding accountable those who attempt to incite unrest.
On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes on dozens of military headquarters and nuclear facilities in Tehran and other locations across Iran, deploying more than 200 warplanes. This assault resulted in the deaths of several senior military officials and atomic scientists.
In retaliation, Iran fired hundreds of missiles in response to the ongoing attacks on its territory on Sunday. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that officials in Tel Aviv would pay a heavy price for their aggression.
